Understanding Sensor Values in Exported CSV Data
Please refer to the EmotivPRO User Manual for a detailed explanation. The values are expressed in microvolts but converted directly from a 14-bit unsigned integer. The DC level is offset by approximately 4100 uV, but the absolute value of the offset can be affected by slow DC drift so we do not attempt to correct it. Please apply a high-pass filter to the data – we recommend a characteristic cutoff around 0.16 Hz or greater. You can refer to this article for how to remove the DC offset from the data.
As a side note, you can also use our cloud computing analyzer to effortlessly post-process data to analyze your data. On the Analyzer page, you can select basic EEG processing or Basic EEG processing and Transformation.
"Basic EEG Processing" applies a slew rate limit, a high-pass filter, and a common-mode noise removal step (subtract signals which are common to a set of channels = background body potential signals that managed to pass through the analog filtering systems). Users can choose parameters at each step. This returns cleaner EEG signals with the DC offset removed. If you choose "Basic EEG Processing and Transformation", Analyzer performs the above filtering, then applies FFT and returns average power in each specified frequency band.
