Tips to achieve good signal quality with long and thick hair and EPOC X or Flex Saline?

1️⃣ Position the Sensors Properly

  • Gently work the sensors through the hair by wiggling them back and forth, as well as side to side.
  • If possible, part or reposition the hair away from sensor locations before fitting the cap.

2️⃣ Apply Fluid Gradually

  • Add more saline solution through the rear port of the sensor.
  • The sensors should be sufficiently wet, and the hair directly underneath should be slightly damp after removing the headset.
  • Apply fluid slowly to prevent excess moisture from spreading to the cap or surrounding hair, as this may cause signal interference by connecting adjacent sensors.

3️⃣ Pre-Soak Felt Pads

  • Remove all felt pads and soak them in saline before reattaching them to the headset.
  • Shake off excess liquid and gently pinch out excess fluid if they are dripping. Pads should be damp but not overly wet, as excess liquid can seep into the cap.

4️⃣ Improve Contact Quality

  • After fitting the sensors, if you still notice poor signal quality, press firmly on the back of the sensor (towards the scalp) for five seconds.
  • This helps push fluid into the hair gap, improving contact.
  • Wait 10 seconds to allow the change to reflect in the signal quality.

By following these steps, you can maximize signal quality and ensure accurate EEG readings even with long or thick hair.
