EMOTIV Inc. is seeking the services of an accomplished research leader to take charge of EMOTIV’s Research Roadmap, contribute to the Company’s scientific vision and manage the day to day research activities of a diverse and distributed team. Join our team to build on state-of-the-art machine learning algorithms leveraging the largest (& rapidly growing) database of EEG data.


EMOTIV’s research efforts are directed at commercialisation of our current and future capabilities in electrophysiological measurements and signal processing, behavioural metrics, brain-computer interfaces, machine learning, data mining and biomarker discovery.


Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, the position would suit an experienced computational neuroscientist with a track record of thought leadership and technical achievement in a team leadership position.


Requirements include


  • A strong knowledge of EEG and related metrics
  • A strong knowledge of EEG signal processing including artefact removal, spatial, spectral and temporal metrics, evoked potentials, network and connectivity measures
  • Experience with EEG source localisation and blind source separation
  • Experience with compressive sensing and nonlinear methods is desirable
  • Deep familiarity with, and significant contributions to, the current scientific literature and technological landscape in the fields of brain imaging, brain-computer interfaces, electrophysiological signal processing, behavioural and psychological metrics and their EEG correlates, machine learning, sensor fusion and big data methodologies


Design, execution and successful analysis of ethical human experiments will form a significant part of the role, as will designing blind experiments on opportunistically collected structured and unstructured data including EEG collected longitudinally from a large population. These experiments will be directed towards improving the commercial offerings of EMOTIV’s world-leading scientific team.


The preferred candidate will have a good understanding of the entire brain imaging market including competing and complementary technologies and be able to provide strategic recommendations regarding future directions which the Company may wish to explore.


Candidates will be required to represent the Company at international conferences and contribute to our Patent portfolio, produce joint peer-reviewed publications and support marketing of EMOTIV’s products and services. EMOTIV has strong relationships with a number of outside research bodies and commercial partners and the candidate will be expected to nurture and support existing relationships and develop new opportunities for cooperation. A significant feature of the role will be to represent EMOTIV’s scientific and technical capabilities at high level commercial meetings where the company will be seeking to establish long term strategic partnerships or attract investment.


The position is based in EMOTIV’s San Francisco headquarters, although strong candidates in Sydney, Australia, will also be considered.
