Emotiv EPOC Brain Activity Map

This application displays a real-time map of your mental activity in four significant brainwave frequency bands. Adjustable gain allows you to see detailed information and relative strengths between different brain regions. Adjustable buffer size allows you to see instant responses or average activity over longer periods.

Delta (0.5-4Hz)
- indicating deep sleep, restfulness, and conversely excitement or agitation when delta waves are suppressed

Theta (4-8Hz) - indicating deep meditative states, daydreaming and automatic tasks

Alpha (8-15Hz) - indicating relaxed alertness, restful and meditative states

Beta (15-30Hz) - indicating wakefulness, alertness, mental engagement and conscious processing of information.

Compatible with the Emotiv EPOC consumer headset and SDK developer and research headsets.

Hi Jed,
Many possibilities here - the most likely being that you don't have good contact, especially around the reference sensors (these are the two sensors behind and 30 degrees above the ears). You should try again with wet sensors, and possibly swap the reference sensors into the sockets directly behind the ears - where the rubber comfort pads normally sit. These are the alternate reference locations - they may work better.
It is quite possible you have one of your references directly over an artery - this will put a slow oscillation into all channels. Try adjusting the headset slightly.

Hi there. I just downloaded the brain map software. With the exception of delta, which was always blue even at high gain, all of the frequency band maps are showing an oscillation between deep blue and bright red, with a variable period of ~ 1-5 seconds. This happens over the entire map, although there is some discernible difference between hemispheres while the map is transiently at an intermediate stage. Adjusting gain has virtually no effect, and adjusting the buffer only affects the speed of oscillation slightly. Do you have any idea what might be causing this? Also, the cognitive suite does not work so great for me (although it is semi-functional)- could it be the same reason? Oh, and fyi i checked and the oscillation is not due to scalp muscle activity. Thank you for your help!
